| This medieval town on the banks of the Arno river with her 382.000 inhabitants, is also called the “Italian Athens” because of her cultural importance, especially with regards to art. The historic city center reflects the great relevance of the town in terms of architecture. Many buildings date back to the period lasting from the late medieval (11th-12th century) until the period of the rule of the Medici in the 15th and 16th century and give proof of the scientific and cultural power of the town. The works of Brunelleschi, Donatello and Masaccio are the finest examples of its importance. From 1865 to 1870 the city was also the capital of the Kingdom of Italy. The historic centre of Florence was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982.
The Palazzo Vecchio, formerly the “Palazzo della Signoria”,
was the center of secular power in Florence. It was built between 1299
and 1314. The Palace was initially the seat of the city parliament and served also as sleeping accommodation for the representatives, which explains the character of its architecture. Around 1540 the Cosimo I converted the building into his governmental palace. ![]() Today the Palazzo, dominated by its 94 m high bell tower, is the town hall of Florence. In front of the main portal there are copies of Michelangelo’s David and the Hercules and Cacus by Bandinelli. Civil weddings in the Sala Rossa take place on Wednesday, Thursday or Saturday in the morning. The costs are 620,00 Euro. Certaldo
is an nice medieval town, located on a panoramic hilltop in the middle
of the Elsa Valley, central to Chianti and key sites. Talking about
Certaldo as a historical site, one refers to the upper part, built of
red brick and also known as “Certaldo Alto”, which is reached
by a panoramic road or by the romantic cableway. The town is famous as the birthplace and home of the 14th century writer Giovanni Boccaccio, The town hosts several festivals a year. The largest and most famous is Mercantia, a week-long party in Certaldo Alto. It involves numerous street performers from across Italy and Europe. It is a highly picturesque and romantic place to celebrate your wedding in Tuscany, recommended for its secluded and intimate atmosphere and its stunning views! ![]() ![]() The marriage can take place outside in the charming courtyard of the Palazzo dei Pretori, a historical setting. This former residence of the Florentine governors, is situated in the upper part of the historical city. It was recently restored to its original condition, has a picturesque facade adorned with ceramic coats of arms, and in the interior are various frescoes dating from the 13th to the 16th century. Weddings may also take place in the desecrated church beside the Palace. Civil weddings take place on working days in the morning
and on Monday and Wednesday also in the afternoon.
The old farmhouse is situated on a hilltop between
San Gimignano and Certaldo, offering superb views across the neighbouring

![]() San Gimignano is known as the “Manhattan of Tuscany" due to the medieval towers that grace the skyline. There are still 14 of the original 71 towers that have survived. The towers were built by noble families as a display of power. Each tower had to surpass the next in height. The highest tower is the Torre Grossa or the Torre della Podestà, which is 54 m high. This is the tower of the present town hall that dates back to the year 1311. San Gimignano not only thrives on tourism, but is also known for its dry white wine, the Vernaccia. From 1990 the historic center of San Gimignano is part of the world cultural heritage. The town hall of San Gimignano is situated in the Palazzo del Popolo or Palazzo Nuovo del Podestà, on the left side of the Piazza Duomo. It is one of the most important buildings of the town, and accommodates also the Town Museum which has important paintings from the 14th and 15th century. Civil weddings are celebrated in the beautiful “Sala di Dante”, where the famous “Maestà” of Lippo Memmi is located.

![]() Siena, the medieval Gothic city and the former city state in the heart of Tuscany, nowadays has about 60,000 inhabitants. Siena is known as one of the most beautiful cities of Italy, and is situated amidst an enchanting Tuscan landscape. The historic part of the town has maintained it’s medieval image, Siena is a walled city of buildings and houses built on narrow streets that radiate warmth from the rich color of the red bricks, out of which almost all buildings are constructed. was from Siena. Today there are famous contemporaries such as the singer
Gianna Nannini and her brother Alessandro, a former racecar driver,
whose family owns cafés and bars. As a special “wedding gift” the bride and groom can, by way of exception, take pictures here and throughout the entire museum. This is surely worth the while, because the museum contains many famous fresco's. The small town of Montepulciano is situated south of Siena, it is situated on the top of a mountain at a height of 600 m and is completely surrounded by the city’s medieval walls. The position and construction of the town contributes to it’s appealing picturesque image.
The town is known as a real jewel of the Italian
Renaissance. Great masters and architects of that period, as for example
Antonio da Sangallo called ”il Vecchio” (the old one), have
enriched the town through their works of art which today can still be
seen in the beautiful palaces of the historic city center. | |||
![]() Cortona is situated high up on the slope of a mountain that is covered with olive trees and vines, and is 650 m above sea level. Cortona has one of the most breathtaking views in all of Italy. The origins of the town are covered in the mist of time and legend. This provincial capital is situated north of Lake Trasimene and south of Arezzo. Cortonawas founded by the Etruscans and was one of the twelve cities of the Etruscan League. Even today, the Etruscan graves outside of the city center are a well worth visiting. Cortona has about 23.000 inhabitants, and is characterized by small streets and alleys. The town accommodates, besides many other objects of interest, the church of San Francesco was the first church of the Franciscans outside of Asissi. The most famous son of the city was the painter Luca Signorelli. The cityscape consists of houses from the middle ages and the Renaissance; the city walls date back to the 4th century A.C.. The most famous folkloric city festival is the Giostra dell'Archidado, crossbow shooting, that celebrates the marriage between Francesco Casali (Lord of Cortona), and the noblewoman Antonia Salimbeni from Siena.
![]() In the present Palazzo Comunale (town hall) is, on the side, in between Piazza della Repubblica and Piazza Signorelli, the original part of the palace (the Sala Consiliare) has been preserved. The town of Poppi, once the main city of the valley, is located in the most northerly corner of the valley, close to the source of the river Arno. The historic center of Poppi rises 437 meters above sea level offering a beautiful view of the valley. Due to its architecture and numerous well conserved historical buildings and monuments Poppi has been recognized as “one of the most beautiful villages in Italy”! Follow the tracks of many poets
who came to Poppi, like Dante Alighieri, who wrote his 33° love
verses for Beatrice here in Poppi! Civil weddings are held on weekdays. Costs are 500,00 Euro (at May 2010).
Example of our wedding venues: The little hotel emerges in one of the oldest buildings in Poppi and abuts on the external walls of the castle. It is originating from a chapel dating back to the XI century. After the church and the adjacent priest's house were deconsecrated they were used for a variety of purposes and in 2002 a painstaking work of restoration began, ending in 2006 with the opening of the hotel. The church has been fully restored and is now used as an art gallery for contemporary sculptures and paintings and as a concert hall.
The hotel now offers 10 guestrooms and is run by a German
family. The large garden belonging to the priest's house is a pleasant complement to the hotel. The deconsecrated church is an enchanting venue for groups up to 30
people, smaller wedding-parties may be arranged also on the terrace
